This blog is about the last field visit which happened at CME (College of Military Engineering), Pune. It is a restricted area and hence going in CME would be a very privileged experience for us.
CME Pune has 3-4 water bodies where we wanted to go. We first stopped at a lake. It was very early morning, there was a lot of haze. So a very hazy and good morning to all!
Taking good photographs against the light is not a possible task. Hence, We further went to another lake where the sun was behind us. Below were the bird sightings!
Caspian Tern (Hydroprogne caspia) |
Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea) |
River Tern (Sterna aurantia) |
Northern Shovelers (Anas clypeata) |
Black Kite (Milvus migrans) |
Northern Shoveler, River Tern & Garganey (Anas querquedula) |
Rudy Shelduck (Tadorna ferruginea) |
Could you imagine what this would be?
Some might guess, Yes, It was a nest of plum headed parakeets on a tree. A very exciting finding which could have been easily missed out. Thanks to Kuntal for spotting and showing us that.
Plum-headed parakeet female in the nest.
And, the charming male!
Plum headed parakeet (Psittacula cyanocephala) |
And, the meet and then we witnessed their mating as well. There was a coppersmith barbet on the same tree, I was lucky this time to record the audio-visual both. Many times you might have heard this peculiar voice (tak-tak-tak!) around your home. (if you have trees enough!, If Not! Go ahead and plant some to enjoy this music...)
Thanks to Dr. Satish Pande, Dr. Karmalkar Sir & Mr. Sachin Haldule Sir to organize this visit.
